Dirt in the Gate Movies are thrilled to bring this ambitious 1990 sci-fi horror hybrid underseen classic to GRINDFEST! Directed by legendary schlock-meister Roger Corman, John Hurt stars as Dr. Joe Buchanan, a 21st-century scientist who invents a particle weapon that accidentally fractures the space-time continuum.

Transported from 2031 to 1817 Switzerland, Buchanan comes face-to-face with his intellectual counterpart, Dr. Victor Frankenstein (Raul Julia), and the literal embodiment of his creation (Nick Brimble). As the modern scientist witnesses the unfolding gothic horror, he attempts to intervene in the tragic loop, engaging with a fictionalised Mary Shelley (Bridget Fonda) and facing the catastrophic consequences of technological irresponsibility. Based on the novel by Brian Aldiss, this cult curiosity blends thoughtful philosophical debate with visceral horror and marks a unique, post-modern return to the director’s chair for Corman.

A Private Life

Lilian (Jodie Foster) is an American psychoanalyst living in Paris whose life is turned upside down by the sudden death of one of her patients.

What begins as an exploration of grief quickly unravels into an intricate web of intrigue—files are stolen, foul play is suspected, and spectres of the past resurface. Determined to uncover the truth, Lilian takes matters into her own hands and, with help from her ex-husband (Daniel Auteuil), becomes an unlikely sleuth in an increasingly delirious whodunnit. French filmmaker Rebecca Zlotowski approaches the genre with genuine thrills and a joyful dose of dark humour.

500 Miles

500 Miles is a poetic, life-affirming road movie and celebration of the human spirit that follows a broken family who are forced to come together when two young brothers run away from home.

While their fighting parents (Clare Dunne & Michael Socha) tear their hair out with worry, runaways Finn (Roman Griffin Davis) and his live-wire younger brother Charlie (Dexter Sol Ansell) embark on an epic adventure from Yorkshire, over land and sea, to the Wild West coast of Ireland. With the free-spirited busker Cate (Maisie Williams) helping the young boys along the way, their destination is Dingle, County Kerry, and their estranged, beloved Grandfather (BAFTA-award winner Bill Nighy), who their parents haven’t spoken to since the fateful events of the previous summer.
