Access

We believe that cinema and live theatre should be enjoyed by everyone. We are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment and continue to improve how we make our venue accessible to all visitors.

At the same time, we recognise that our building, now nearly 100 years old, presents certain physical limitations. Where challenges exist, we work hard to provide practical solutions and clear information, so every guest can plan their visit with confidence.

To make your visit as enjoyable as possible, we offer a range of facilities and services that include:

Subtitled film showings

We endeavour to offer a weekly subtitled showing of our most popular films for those who are deaf, hard of hearing, or just prefer subtitles!

Audio description and enhancement

Our auditorium is equipped with an infrared hearing assistance system to support both hearing impaired and visually impaired guests when attending cinema showings. Headsets are available to collect from the foyer on arrival and provide the following options:

• Audio Description: Provides a narrated track describing the on-screen action for visually impaired guests
• Audio Enhancement: Plays the film’s audio directly through the headset for guests with hearing impairments. Each headset has individual volume controls on both earphones, allowing you to adjust sound to your comfort. If you need any assistance, our team will be happy to help you get set up.

Relaxed performances

At a Relaxed Performance, changes are made to the show and auditorium to create a more accessible experience for some audience members, including people with sensory sensitivities, autistic people and people with learning disabilities. During a Relaxed Performance, house lights will remain on and people are free to go in and out of the auditorium during the show. Some technical changes may also be made to the show – this can include quieter music, reducing loud or surprising sound effects and avoiding strobe lighting.

Signed Performances

This type of performance features a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter who interprets the dialogue on stage as it is being performed to aid those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Wheelchair users

We have four wheelchair bays at the rear of the stalls in row U. There is an accessible toilet in the upper foyer with level access to the stalls.

Step free access

As a historic 1930s venue, some areas of the Regent present challenges for step-free access, but we are committed to supporting all customers and providing the best possible experience.

The main box office entrance from the High Street has step-free access.

Inside, the foyer is arranged across three split levels, connected by stairs. Stair lifts are available in the foyer for wheelchair users, and a member of our Front of House team will be on hand to assist. Please note these lifts cannot be used standing or with mobility scooters.

The Circle and Circle Bar are currently only accessible via two flights of stairs.

For access to the auditorium stalls, step-free entry is available either via the foyer stair lifts or through our side fire exit entrance. If you would prefer to use this step-free route, please speak to a member of the team at the main entrance on arrival and we will be happy to assist you.
