The posters for Last Action Hero promised it would be “The Big Ticket for ’93”, but Columbia Pictures’ $85M surefire smash underperformed. The studio had been rattled by the lukewarm response from preview screenings, but had nevertheless stuck to their guns and went head to head with Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. As Jack Slater himself might say, “big mistake”.

But, LAST ACTION HERO remains a cult favourite and has aged better than expected mainly due to the concept of a young movie fan thrown into the fictional world of his favourite action film character being ahead of its time.
