Stanley Kubrick Season

16 July 2024
Celebrate the monolithic genius of Stanley Kubrick on the 25th anniversary of his death, and the 60th anniversary of Dr. Strangelove, with a special season of films at the Regent.

Kubrick’s limitless scope, obsessive control over all elements of production, and painstaking perfectionism saw him craft some of the greatest films of all time, expand the limits of visual storytelling, and cement his legacy atop the highest echelon of filmmakers, influencing the likes of Christopher Nolan, Steven Spielberg and David Fincher.

We have hand-picked some of our favourite and most influential films of this truly visionary filmmaker, giving you the chance to revisit some of his timeless works on the big screen.

DR. STRANGELOVE (1964)

Celebrating its 60th anniversary, Stanley Kubrick's celebrated satire centres on an insane general who triggers a path to nuclear holocaust that a War Room full of politicians and military men frantically tries to stop. It stars Peter Sellers as an RAF officer, the President of the USA and the mysterious scientist Dr. Strangelove, one of cinema's most unique comic creations.

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (1968)

After discovering a mysterious artifact buried beneath the Lunar surface, mankind sets off on a quest to find its origins with help from intelligent supercomputer H.A.L. 9000. Stanley Kubrick’s grand vision of mankind’s journey from its hominid beginnings to its star-child evolution is a towering achievement of science-fiction cinema. Considered by many to be Kubrick’s greatest work, the influence 2001 had on films and filmmaking cannot be overstated.

BARRY LYNDON (1975)

Kubrick's epic costume drama based on William Makepeace Thackeray's beautiful novel, telling the story of an Irish rogue who wins the heart of a rich widow and assumes her dead husband's aristocratic position in 18th-century England. Regarded by many as one of Kubrick’s finest and most influential films, only a cinema screen can do justice to its stunning visuals and cinematography.

FULL METAL JACKET (1987)

Through the eyes of the 18-year-old Joker, we follow the troop all the way from their brutal training, to senseless street fights in Hue, to the front lines of the meaningless, bloody conflict. A superb ensemble cast falls in for action in Stanley Kubrick's brilliant saga about the Vietnam War and the dehumanising process that turns people into trained killers.
